14th February

We start a new unit from the coursebook, unit 8.
In this unit, we study prepositions of place and the verbal structure: there is/are.
To introduce the topic, we talk about our houses, if we live in a house or a flat. Then, we focus on some pictures of parts of a house and we match the numbers with the things in the house.
After that, we revise the structure there is/are.

There is a table=singular
There are some tables= plural
There isn't a table= negative+singular
There aren't any tables= negative+plural
Is there a table?= interrogative+singular
Are there any tables?= interrogative+plural

To consolidate this new structre we do some practical exercises. First, we listen to Robert describing his living room, the students have to complete the text.
Then, we look at the photo of Robert's room. We describe it using the vocabulary from ex.2 and there is/are and ask questions about it, too.
Finally, we listen to Robert's conversation with his mother and the students need to answer some comprehension exercises.
To finish the class, we introduce the new grammar point: prepositions of place. We pay attention to some slides on the board and try to describe a pair of photos using "there is/are"+ prepositions of place.

Homework: Read the text on p.61 about Vancouver and do ex.3,4,5.
