29th January

In this class, we study how to ask questions politely. In this case we use "Can I...?".
First we look at some photos and identify the place and the activity we can do there, then we listen to a girl in different situations and try to find out where she is and what she wants (T7.9).
Then we try to complete some dialogues, we listen and check (T7.10) and finally we roleplyed those dialogues in pairs.
We finish the class, correcting the vocabulary exercises. They are opposite adjectives. And we read a postcard, look for the adjectives and classify them.

This expresses proximity, things that are near us.
This is my book.
That is used for distant things, they are not near us.
That book is Ana's

Then, we revise the new grammar point: object pronouns.
We do some practical exercises on p.51, and we also laern how to make questions with "why" and how to answer those questions with "because" (p.51,ex.3). For our next class we have to complete at home the vocabulary exercises on p.52 (adjectives), ex.1,2. Read and listen to a postcard from San Francisco and do ex.3 (T.7.8)

22nd January

We start a new lesson, unit 7.

During this unit we'll learn about objective and possessive pronouns, demonstratives and requests (Can I...?).
We start the class asking our partner about his/her favourites, using the question:

What's your favourite...food/drink/sport...?

We continue revising the question words:

What/when/where/how/who/how much/how many/why

Remember that these question words come at the beginning of a question. And sometimes they accompany a noun/adjective when we want to know some specific information. For example,

What colour is your car?
What drinks do you like?
How old is your daughter?
How many languages do you speak?

Then, we read and listened about Gina's website (T7.1) and complete some sentences with possessive adjectives and object pronouns.

We study that object pronouns are used in place of a noun, thay come after a verb or a preposition:

I love him!
I'm in love with him!

Subject Object
I        me
you        you
he        him
she          her
it         it
we          us
you                 you
they          them

We also correct a short text (p. 49, ex.6) about Gina and we finish the class studying the possessive pronouns: they are used in place of a possessive adjective+noun.

That's my car=That car is mine. It's not yours!

possessive adjective possessive pronoun
my mine
your yours
his his
her hers
our ours
your yours
their theirs

Practise online:

Yes he does.
No she doesn't
He/she doesn't like pizza.

First, we do an exercise of completing sentences with the information from Elliot's text. Then, we read the grammar point on p. 125 and put into practice the new structures with an oral activity and a grammatical exercise (p. 43, ex. 5,6).
To close the grammar point we finally complete a chart with the present simple forms.
And after that, we listen to a phone conversation between Elliot and his sister Lois (t.6.12). The students write the missing words in the dialogue.

Homework
Read the text about Lois on p.44 and complete it with the verb from the box (ex.2).
Write a composition about a friend or a member of your family. (p.45,ex.6).80words. (Deadline 20th January).

Tuesday 8 January 2013

8th January

We start the class revising the days of the week and the prepositions of time. To consolidate the new structures we complete the exercise 5 on page 47 and ask the questions to our classmates and then, we listen to a pop song 'Friday I'm in love'(The Cure) and complete the blanks in the lyrics.
After that, we read about Elliot's day on page 42. Then, we do a comprehension exercise in which the students have to write the times in a series of sentences.
The students learn about the third person singular in English. To form it we need to add an -s at the end of the verb. And they also study the meaning, use and position of the frequency adverbs like 'always, sometimes and never' (before a verb but after the verb to be).
To finish, the class we practise the pronunciation of the -s at the end of the verbs.
In our next class we'll learn how to form questions and negatives in the third person singular.
Homework.
